how to become great at something

this is really great and quite motivational. This is exactly how i think and is exactly what i want to teach my future students. I feel like in art, (high school) students are so easily discouraged to try anything new. In the school where i am student teaching next semesters, they have 7 sections of ceramics and maybe 2 drawing classes. those kids are so afraid at being bad at something that they never even try. a few are really interested in art but don’t want to take a drawing class because it might be a bit of a challenge. i try to tell them that drawing (and other arts) just takes practice and drive. I consider myself a decent artist but it didn’t just happen on day. i practice all the time. thats the only way to get good at anything. some things that i have made really suck, but we all have to start some where. if there are not struggles to do something then there is no point in doing it.

I am incredibly bored. there are things i should be doing, but not actually doing them:

1. Drawing the window design for work. We are participating in a Bloomington holiday window decorating contest and my bosses chose me to do it. im pumped. i need to get a plan together though.
2. More drawings for a potential clothing brand. its pretty hush right now but hopefully this could be good. if only i was motivated…
3. Lots of papers. i have huge papers for just about every class and they are all due the week after thanksgiving. glad the professors are going to enjoy their break, ill be slaving away.
4. Printmaking! Im exciting about this, but its soooo much work.

im glad they made energy drinks to get me through all this stuff, now i just need a motivation drink to get me started. 3 weeks left of college :-D
